The canoe handles great and is well described in the other positive reviews out there. I caution the new purchaser to prefold all the seams before taking it out. There are small triangular tucking folds in four places that are particularly hard to fold the first time. I ended up getting them started and finishing the job with a wood clamp; they're that tough. MyCanoe folks: a factory prefold in these spots would be IMMENSELY helpful. The only other thing I'll add is that a heavier person (I'm 220 lbs) will be less able to stand-up paddle as the canoe flexes more for us. A great boat though and very fun.
Love the canoes. I don't have space for a full size rigid canoe. First time was a challenge as the material is stiff, I asked questions and support was right with me ! On the water it track well and feel right. After 3 times I got my assembly time down to 5-10min, for reference it took a good 45min to get it done the first time. Would recommend !
Surprisingly rigid. It took over 30 mins first time but I am now able to put it together under 5 mins. Would have been nice for cup holders to have been included. Tracks well.
We love this canoe. Perfect for us as we have a family of 5 and a camper. We travel all over the place and until now didn't really have a way to transport canoes. Now, with the ability to pack these away we can travel with 2 of these without issue! Quality design and handles really well. I am able to put my 9 year old in the front without issue. Looking forward to a summer of fun with these!
I wanted a packable canoe and decided to try mycanoe solo. Very happy with solo. Materials are high quality. It is a little bit bigger than I originally wanted but it is easy to store and fits in my suv. Assembly is a breeze and paddles well. I would recommend to my friends.
Overall, I have been very impressed with my canoe (no pun intended)! I live in an apartment and physically don't have space to store a traditional canoe but still love to go paddling, so this is the perfect option for me. A few key points:
Assembly - Surprisingly, very easy and quick! The first few times assembling the canoe took some effort and finesse, but I quickly got the hang of it and can now assemble/disassemble in 5 minutes or less. There are a few key tricks with folding and snapping the seat together that need to be done correctly, but once you've done it a few times, it's easy.
Paddling - She paddles quite well considering it folds into a box! The Solo model is a bit wide in the center making the boat slow but stable, so it's a great option for fishing or hauling gear. The canoe tracks well but has no keel, a huge plus for maneuverability. I like to do freestyle paddling and the Solo would not be my choice for this, as you can kneel in the Duo model and more easily control the boat. In the water, the MyCanoe is very sturdy! The seat flexes a bit, but nothing concerning. Be sure to tighten the 4 straps that form a "V" on the canoe hull near the front and back ends of the gunwales, as these really add to the structural integrity!
Transport and storage - Pretty much as expected. The canoe feels a lot like a large suitcase, but the strap is relatively comfortable. I wouldn't plan to hike miles with the canoe + gear, but a short trail to your launch site is great. The Solo fits great in small cars, especially if you put the seats down. Inside, it fits great under our guest bed and looks nondescript from the folded edges visible under the bed.
Overall, I've really enjoyed this canoe! I can't speak too much about durability since I haven't had it for too long, but so far, I'm really excited about using this for years to come. I love paddling and MyCanoe makes it possible for me to have a boat in my apartment.
We own MyCanoe 2.5 and can't wait to have new models. We've been using the old one for over 4 years and it's still going strong. My daughter will be a new owner of the old one!
UPDATES: Amazing. Solo is very easy to assemble and put it back. Really fun on water! We are considering to order another one for my daughter.
